The Department of Mathematics was founded in 1957 as part of the Kazakh Institute of Chemical Technology. In different years, the head of the department were famous scientists and teachers: Kuznetsov M. (1957-1960), Tsai I. (1960-1963.), Kamardinov O. (1963-1970.), Zhumabekov L. (1970-1975.), Baiteliev T. (1975-1986.), Zhumabekov L. (1986-1996.), Oynarov R. (1996-2000), Rakhimbek D. (2000-2003).

From 2003 to the present, the post of head of the department has been held by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Ashirbayev Nurgali.

In different years, Zhumabekov L.Zh., Baiteliev T.B., Kupesh B., Oynarov R., Rakhimbek D., Taskaraev A., Datkaev A.M., Shaldanbaev A., Yunusov A.A. and other well-known methodologists worked at the department.

Kopesh, «Improvement of logical and methodological knowledge of students (1998)», «Methods of teaching mathematics (2006)» by D. Rakhimbek, «Differential geometry and topology (2011)», «Generalized solutions of the Dirichlet problem for the Monge-Ampere equation (2010)» by A. Taskaraev, «Elements of the theory of functions of a complex variable (2009)», «Lecture Notes on mathematical analysis (2011)» by A. Yunusova, textbooks by A. Shaldanbayeva «Operator method for solving boundary value problems (2018)», «Sturm-Liouville operator (2018)» are used in the educational process in schools and universities of the republic.

The department employs 3 Doctors of Sciences, 6 Candidates of Sciences, 1 PhD, 3 senior teachers, 3 master teachers. The department trains specialists in bachelor's degree programs 6B01510-Mathematics, 6B05410-Mathematics and Statistics, Master's degree 7M01510-Mathematics, 7M05410-Mathematics and Statistics, and also provides training in doctoral programs 8D01510-Mathematics, 8D05410-Mathematics and Statistics.

In accordance with the order of the Chairman of the Committee for Control in the Field of education and Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated March 24, 2019 No.42-ЖOOК at the South Kazakhstan State University named by M.Auezov, a dissertation council was opened in the specialty 6D010900(8D01510) – Mathematics. At this dissertation council, doctoral students who graduated from the educational program 6D010900(8D01510) – Mathematics Abdualieva M.A. (2019), Torebek E.Zh. (2020), Totikova G.A. (2021) successfully defended and received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Graduate of the department Sarsenbi A.A. He graduated and defended his doctorate in the specialty 6D060100 - Mathematics, and in 2019 he received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

Pedagogical, industrial practice of bachelors, undergraduates and doctoral students at the department is conducted by experienced teachers and methodologists of the department. The main direction of the department's work: theoretical, scientific and methodological training of future teaching staff; conducting fundamental and applied research in the field of education. According to the plan, teachers of the department take advanced training courses and scientific internship in higher educational institutions of the republic and abroad, as well as participate in seminars and conferences on the system of secondary and higher education. Undergraduates and doctoral students studying at the department undergo scientific training in universities of the near and far abroad.

The first graduates of the department graduated in 2001 with a degree in 030140-«Mathematics and Computer Science». On the basis of this department with more than 65 years of history, several thousand specialists have been trained to meet the requirements of the education system and society.

The teaching staff of the department annually replenishes the Fund of the university library, preparing and publishing textbooks, educational and methodological literature in accordance with the plan of the publishing house. The level of methodological support of the educational process in the specialties prepared by the teachers of the department meets the modern requirements for improving the quality of training specialists. The department is equipped with computer classes, interactive whiteboards connected to the Internet.

The holders of the state grant «The Best University teacher» at the department are PhD, Professor N.K. Ashirbayev (2010, 2021), PhD, Professor A.M. Sarsenbi (2010, 2021), PhD, Associate Professor R.B. Bekmoldaeva (2013), PhD.Associate professor Madiyarov N.K. (2016), senior lecturer Duisebaeva P.S. (2017).

Graduates can work in secondary, professional, higher educational institutions, research centers, public administration bodies in the field of public education. Our graduates are not limited only to pedagogical activity, they carry out a great successful creative activity in science, production.

In general, the department is a competitive specialist, a cohesive and actively working team with sufficient scientific potential aimed at achieving high results in the training of future teachers of mathematics of the new generation.

Scientific work

The department is conducting research for 2021-2025 on approved state budget topics:

21-09-01 - Propagation of non-stationary waves in bodies with inhomogeneities. Supervisor: PhD, Professor Ashirbayev N.K.

21-10-01 - Improvement of theoretical and methodological training of future teachers of mathematics. Supervisor: Ph.D., Associate Professor Madiyarov N.K.

Under the guidance of Ph.D., Professor Sarsenbi A., work was carried out on a scientific project funded from the republican budget for 2018-2020 on the topic «Basic properties of eigenvectors of one-dimensional differential operators with involution».

Under the guidance of Ph.D., Professor Sarsenbi A., work was carried out on a scientific project funded from the republican budget for 2020-2022 AP08855792 «Green's function and spectral characteristics of boundary value problems for second-order differential equations with involution».

Under the guidance of Ph.D., Professor Kalimbetov B.T. for 2018-2020, work was carried out on a scientific project funded from the republican budget on the topic AR05133858 «Contrasting structures in singularly perturbed equations and their application in the theory of phase transitions».

The results of research work in these areas and scientific projects are published in scientific journals of the far and near abroad with an impact factor, republican rating publications from the list of the Committee for Quality Assurance in the Field of Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, proceedings of international, republican, regional scientific and practical conferences of various levels.

The department pays great attention to the interaction of students, undergraduates and doctoral students in research and participation in conferences, subject Olympiads, competitions of various levels.

Doctoral students of the department Kudaibergenova Zh.U., Saparbayeva E.M. took part in the competition of research papers «My PhD thesis», organized on April 27-29, 2022 at the Togliatti State University of the Russian Federation and took the 3rd prize.

Mazhitov B.Zh., a master's student of the MEP-18-9NK group, took the 2nd prize at the International Scientific and Practical Conference among young scientists of universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan «Zhas Galym-2019» at Taraz State Pedagogical University in 2019.

In 2019, at the Republican Student Mathematical Olympiad in the specialty 5B010900-Mathematics, held at Pavlodar State Pedagogical University, students of the specialty Mathematics took the 2nd prize.
